Classics for Every Season
We've recently introduced our range of J.M. Classics, wardrobe essentials that never go out of style and only get better with age. Evergreen tailoring and shirting- easy wool high-twists and hopsacks complement classic spread collars and button downs in blues and whites. Always in stock, and all expertly crafted in Naples, with hand-done details rarely seen at this price point- making our pieces some of the best value in ready-to-wear today.
Hopsack earns its keep more than almost any other cloth in the shop- an open, basket weave that wears well from a spring afternoon straight through Fall and Winter. In navy, it's about as close to essential as a jacket gets: the one you reach for when you don't want to think too hard about it, because it goes over grey trousers, odd chinos, jeans, nearly anything you own. We cut it two ways- a soft 3-roll-2 for something a little easier and more traditional American in feel, or a 6x2 double breasted if you want more presence.
The oxford button-down is a backbone of our J.M. Classics range- the shirt that's the Ivy League uniform and equally the uniform of the beats, the rebels, and the poets. Cut from a sturdy but lightweight 100% cotton oxford with a soft, full-roll collar, chest pocket, and box pleat in back- made by hand in Naples.
The high twist wool itself is the star of the show here- a fine, dry-handed cloth with that naturally resists wrinkles and hold its shape through a long day or a long flight. We've custom-developed this unique char-brown- an unusual, versatile color that plays as easily with navy and grey as it does with cream and chocolate brown. It's the reason this fabric has become our house cloth: quietly distinctive and endlessly wearable.
The western shirt is one of the great American originals, and our take gives it a Neapolitan turn- cut from a lightweight, washed Italian denim with a hand-attached collar and sleeve. We like it worn against type, under a chalkstripe suit with a grenadine tie, though just as often it's jeans and a linen jacket. Like a good pair of jeans, it only gets better with age.
