Denim, for us, is as straightforward as it gets- and yet one of the hardest things to get right. We went through a lot of makers and a lot of fabric before we found something we were truly happy with. In the end, we landed on Japanese selvedge, woven on traditional shuttle looms and washed until each piece reached exactly the right character. Alongside our jeans, a family of lightweight denim shirtings- cut in a traditional button-down collar or western pearl snaps, all made at our small, family-run camiceria in Naples. Wardrobe staples- made to be worn with everything and built to get better the longer you have them.
The western shirt- one of the most iconic pieces to emerge from the American wardrobe. The Neapolitan Pearl Snap is cut from a lightweight washed Italian denim, with elegant details like a hand-attached collar and shirt sleeve. We find it works best in contrast- think of it beneath a chalk stripe suit with a grenadine tie. As with all good denim, it will only improve with time- wearing gradually at the elbows, cuffs, and collar, until it becomes uniquely yours.
A shirt with range. The Denim Button-Down- made at our Neapolitan camiceria in a lightweight Italian denim, available in several washes. The 3.25-inch button-down collar is lightly interlined to encourage an easy, natural roll. Featuring mother of pearl buttons, a single chest pocket, and a back box pleat. The sort of shirt you'll find yourself reaching for more often than you'd expect.
Our J. Mueser Denim is a high-waisted, straight-cut five-pocket with a button fly and inset coin pocket. Cut and sewn in Japan from selvedge denim woven on antique shuttle looms, with the selvedge stripe visible at the hem. An embroidered "M" sits on each back pocket. Available in four colors- off-white, jet black, a mid washed blue, and a dark rinsed.
